Code of Conduct

This page contains the Kewaskum Youth Basketball Code of Conduct and how we expect our coaches, player, and spectators to adhere to while both in practice and games.

About our Code of Conduct

This code of conduct is to be followed with conjunction with the Fond du Lac Area Basketball League codes and rules and not as a separate entity.

Code of Conduct Focuses

We have divided our code of conduct into four areas of focus:

The Player

  1. Treats all opponents and teammates with respect.
  2. Plays hard, but plays within the rules.
  3. Exercises self control at all times, setting the example for others to follow.
  4. Respects their coach and the officials. They will accept their decisions without gestures or arguments.
  5. Wins without boasting, loses without excuses and never quits.
  6. Always remembers that it is a privilege to represent your team and your community.
  7. Promises to notify their coach of any schedule conflicts as soon as possible.

The Coach

  1. Treats their players and their opponents with respect.
  2. Inspires in the athletes a love of the game and the desire to compete fairly.
  3. Is the type of person that they want their athletes to be.
  4. Disciplines those on the team who display un-sportsman like conduct.
  5. Respects the judgment and interpretation of the rules by the officials.
  6. Knows that they are a teacher and understand that the athletic arena is a classroom.
  7. Always remembers that it is a privilege to represent your team and your community.

The Spectator

  1. Attempts to understand and be informed of the game rules.
  2. Shows compassion for an injured player.
  3. Applauds positive performance for either competitor.
  4. Does not heckle, jeer or distract players.
  5. Does not use profane or obnoxious language or behavior.
  6. Respects the judgment and strategy of the coach and does not criticize players.
  7. Respects the property of others and the authority of those who administer the competition.

The Official

  1. Knows the rules and their interpretations.
  2. Places the welfare of the athletes above all other considerations.
  3. Treats players and coaches with courtesy and demands the same from them.
  4. Is fair and firm in all decisions, never compensating for previous mistakes.
  5. Maintains confidence, poise and self-control at all times.
  6. Work cooperatively with fellow officials, timers and scorers.
