Fond du Lac Area Basketball League 5th Grade Rules
These are the Kewaskum
Youth Basketball and Fond du Lac Area Basketball League
rules for the sixth grade teams. The rules are set by both the
WIAA and the Fond du Lac Area Basketball League and are to be
obeyed in all games played by Kewaskum
Youth Basketball.
WIAA rules will be followed with the following exceptions:
- **7 minute Quarters will be played. The clock will stop on all whistles.
- 2 minute overtime period. If no winner after overtime period 1 free throw will be shot by each of the 5 players for each team that were on the floor at the end of overtime. Alternating teams with visiting team shooting first. Best of 5 wins, repeat until there is a winner.
- Each team is allotted 3 time outs per game. Unused time outs can not be carried over to use in the overtime periods. 1 time out per overtime period.
- The free throw line will be 15 feet.
- One certified referee must be officiating every game.
- Women size ball will be used.
- WIAA rules will be in effect, including 3 point shots, coaches bench conduct, and three seconds.
- The host team will furnish the game ball, scorer, timekeeper, and referees.
- A team must start a game with 5 players but can finish the game with less than five.
- If a team must forfeit, the forfeiting team must pay for the officials.
- Schools are to be open one half an hour before the first game.
- Man to man defense is to be played.
- Double-teaming is allowed any
time an offensive player is attacking the basket
in an attempt to penetrate or score from anywhere
on the court.
Example: point guard picks, point guard clear outs, picks or clear outs of any kind.
- Double-teaming is not allowed on any offensive player who is not attempting to score. Example: a point guard who is setting up the offense or a wing who has received a pass but is not attempting to drive to the basket.
- Double-teaming is allowed any time the ball is in the low or high post until there is a shot, a pass or a turnover.
- Sagging or helping is allowed
in the lane if the ball is on one side of the court
and a defensive man’s person is on the other side
of the court.
Example: a clear out for one player or if a team runs picks to one side of the court and sends players opposite as decoys. The defensive team must not be penalized for playing good man to man defense if the offensive team has players who are not involved in the offensive play.
- Double-teaming will be allowed until
the offensive player attempting to score shoots, passes
the ball or turns the ball over. After a pass there must be an attempt by the defense to recover and find the man they were initially covering.
- If a defensive player is not covering anyone for two or more times down the court a zone warning must be called then a technical foul if it persists.
- There is no 6 feet rule. Meaning a defensive man does not have to be with in 6 feet of the offensive player if the ball is on one side of the court and the man they are guarding is on the opposite side of the court.
- Pressing is allowed during the last 2 minutes of each half, and in overtime unless a team is ahead by 10 or more points.
- Any type of press may be used. The team that is pressing may use double team triple team or trap anywhere on the court.
- Neither team can be called for a double team or zone warning or technical during the last 2 minutes of each half, regardless of any warnings or technical given out prior.
- Technical fouls will be an automatic 2 points and the ball.
- No protests are allowed; official’s decisions are final.
- Head coach is allowed to stand unless told to sit by official.
